The summer camp for children in the South Bohemia
Why do so many children like to come back to the children's camp SUMMER TIME each year? Is it the attractive environment, the interesting games or simply how the kids practice their English in creative and enjoyable ways?
The location of the camp SUMMER TIME is really extraordinary. Not by a long shot is every camp able to boast such a setting, lying in the heart of South Bohemian forests and, in addition, close to the shore of such a picturesque river as the Luznice. There, roughly halfway between the towns of Tabor and Bechyne, is situated a famous Napoleonic chain bridge, whose surroundings we use for comfortable and safe swimming in the river. Also, concerning safety, we always take extra care in this regard - in the water, while sailing on punts (flatboats), or playing games in the forest and in the camp, which is very well equipped for safe playful activities. The camp offers several courts and playing fields for volleyball and football, tables for table tennis, and other equipment to pursue many different sports activities.
In the camp SUMMER TIME, the children also practice their English-language skills daily in playful ways. Exploiting peaceful, nonviolent forms of class work, games, competitions, songs, etc., the smallest children can familiarize themselves with the language while the older ones have the possibility to exercise their skills and not lose contact with the language over the summer holidays. Every morning a special teacher (native speaker) guides an hour of language class work. English is also included in some games, including the central, main game of the camp, which forms the principle intellectual focus of each edition of the camp. This year´s theme is "The Tortuous Path of Heroic Odysseus", inspired by Homer's epic, which is the basis of Greek mythology. After winning the Trojan War, Odysseus and his men are returning home to Ithaca to his beloved wife Penelope. Poseidon, god of the sea, becomes angry at Odysseus and prepares countless obstacles for him during the voyage. Hopefully we can overcome all of the dangers together. The daily camp program also includes popular evening activities like campfires with sing-alongs and the ever popular discotheques. Among the frequent attractions are hot-air balloon flights from the area of the camp.
We genuinely care about children, so they will be well looked-after at all times. This begins above all with the selection of our experienced staff, comprised of group leaders, teachers and students with pedagogical experience, English-language teachers, health personnel and the cooking staff. Our cooks work during the school year as cooks in kindergartens. They prepare a varied menu for the children: warm food twice a day, breakfast, snacks and fruit. Accommodation is provided in cottages; each has two rooms containing four to six beds, a hall plus a veranda. In the event of rain, the children can still enjoy themselves in covered areas such as the clubhouse, dining halls, table-tennis hall and enclosed terraces. The camp is equipped with warm water showers and modern lavatories.
SUMMER TIME accepts children from 6 to 16 years of age. In past seasons of our camp (since 1994), has successfully created well-coordinated teams of group leaders and children. We believe that this year's 19th edition will also be very successful, as in previous years.
